07/31/06 - Portree,
Isle of Skye,
Scotland (photo

Arriving on the Isle
of Skye - achingly beautiful scenery...and sickeningly winding
roads! |
|
After six hours of driving along winding roads through the
stunning emerald green hills etched with waterfalls and shrouded
in mist, we crossed the Skye Bridge and arrived in Portree, the
largest town on the Isle of Skye, bustling with tourists.
Caroline, in a car-sick fog of her own, was more than pleased to
stumble out of the car and check into the pleasant-but-no-frills
Ben Tianavaig B&B, located right above the picturesque harbor of
Portree. Gill, an Englishwoman and David, from Australia,
were the friendliest and most charming of hosts and served a
mean Scottish breakfast, complete with some of the best black
pudding in the country - yum yum, so delicious! There had
been rain off and on during the trip up and in our haste to make
it to the Tourist Information center before they closed, we
managed to go out in a brief but heavy downpour, getting soaked
to the skin on the short walk to the TI. Luckily for
Caroline, she still fits perfectly into Scott's pants and was
happy to borrow a pair for the rest of the day, having no long
pants other than the ones that got drenched and the weather
being chilly and drizzly (except for a brief visit by the sun
and a double rainbow!). |
