Kitchen...Complete! -ish, and Back on the
Road |
07/07/06 - Lafayette,
LA
After the last-second
(literally) completion of our kitchen remodel, it's time to
drive to Michigan |
We planned our kitchen remodel so we'd have plenty of time to
drive to Detroit (where our flight originates) before our July
22nd flight to Scotland. Of course, we used as much time
as we had. Our plan had been to leave at around 8am on
July 4th, with some family and friend visits planned out along
the way. The plumber finally showed up at 7:30pm on July
3rd to start installing the sink and appliances, and had to
return the next day with more parts. Since people often
'claim' to be returning the next day, only to disappear for
weeks, we still didn't know at 11am whether or not we'd be
driving out of Mexico that day. Lo and behold, he came
(gracias Alfredo)! and the kitchen is done - with the exception
of the backsplash and proper installation of our dishwasher.
After a noon start, we hit our hotel in Laredo at 10pm with no
trouble - watching the 4th of July fireworks while waiting in
traffic on the bridge over the Rio Grande. The next two
days saw us outlet & clothes shopping to replace our tattered
Mexican rags that we've been wearing, and driving through Texas.
Now we're sitting in hot and humid southern Louisiana in
Lafayette, 'The Gateway to Acadia', where last night we enjoyed
some delicious fried shrimp and gumbo over at Don's Seafood - we
suggest you check it out next time y'all are down here.
Today we plan to swing through New Iberia - Cajun Country - on
the way to our stop in Montgomery, Alabama this evening.
That's all for now, time to go hit the fabulous Quality Inn
breakfast buffet! |
