¿COMO se llama?

02/10/06 - San Miguel, MX

'Scott Brooks' was sooo easy to spell in the U.S.

After a year of mis-spellings, we've now seen the worst version of Scott Brooks yet.  Apparently, it's an extremely difficult name to say and understand here, with some hard to make sounds.  So after a lifetime of having it easy, I now struggle to try to explain exactly just who I am.  The latest incident occurred while on the phone with Whirlpool, trying to get a technician out to work on our refrigerator.  After 3 or 4 times speaking my name, I even attempted to spell it (in espanol, por supuesto).  When the technician arrived, I noticed his service order had my name at the top... "Stach Brus".  Did I mention I spelled it out?   I think this says a  lot about my 'Mexican' accent, in addition to the oddity of the name.  Caroline just goes by Carolina, making it a bit easier for her.  Most of the time, I just go by 'Ess-caught', for anyone else out there named Scott who plans to travel south of the border.

That's all for now,

Stach

Our New Furniture Arrives!

02/03/06 - San Miguel, MX (Photos - same as 1/29/06 entries)

After this easy experience, we've got a new favorite carpenter

For those of you who may have read the 1/18/06 entry, you'll recall that while we were in Patzcuaro, we commissioned 7 pieces of furniture from a local carpenter there.  Having extensive experience these days in the custom furnishings department, we had low hopes for success; we just wanted the process of furnishing our San Miguel apartment to be over.  Much to our surprise and delight, we got an email while in San Antonio from our carpenter's wife, Maria-Elena, saying that our furniture was done early!  Our first morning back in San Miguel, they showed up right on time as promised at 8:00am with all of the correct pieces in tow!  We were blown away.  To top it all off, the furniture turned out beautifully, topping our highest expectations.  This was hands down the best and easiest experience we've had during our remodeling efforts in Mexico.  And what a deal... $1,500 U.S. gets you a bedroom set, entertainment center, coffee table and console table, all high quality solid wood.  If only everything worked out this easy, we'd probably be looking for more houses to remodel!
