Time to take a
vacation from Mexico. After a frantic week finding our
place in San Miguel, and another frantic week getting all the
contractors squared away at our other place in Puerto Vallarta,
we hit the road again. Last time we were in Michigan it
was the horrible dead of winter; this time we're actually
looking forward to spending part of the summer somewhere other
than a tropical jungle (anyone else been to PV in July?
don't go).
Initially we planned
to fly back to Michigan, but after hearing from the San Miguel
locals that it's only a 7.5 hour drive to Texas, we got to
thinking. Driving would allow us to bring back as much
stuff as we could stash in our car, give us flexibility on when
we could return to Mexico (we're planning about 4 weeks), and
solve our 'where to park' problem in Mexico (not to mention save
on the expensive airfare and monthly car rental). We
figured it would take 5 days.
Now we sit in the
Comfort Inn of Hillsboro, Texas, about 60 miles south of Dallas.
This, after discovering that Jehovah's Witnesses from all over
have taken every other hotel room from Waco to Austin.
It's been 2 days on the road from PV... 2 long days. 11
hours of driving on Thursday to Matehuala, MX, and another 13
hours on the road yesterday, including our border crossing and
sitting in Austin's Friday night rush hour traffic. Today
we'll pass through Dallas, Texarkana, Little Rock, and Memphis
on our way to the border of southern Illinois. |
