02/25/05 - Baton Rouge, LA (Photos
- same as San Antonio & Beaumont)
MORE sightseeing (I think we've had about enough!) |
|
We managed to drag ourselves out of bed and New Orleans by
around 12:30 on Friday afternoon, and planned to drive to Baton
Rouge for the night. Along the way, we did some more
sight-seeing at the LSU Rural Life Museum, where they had quite
a few interesting artifacts that we’d never seen before
(bathtubs from the 1800’s with built-in water heaters, steam
powered room fans, etc.). We also stopped at the Louisiana State
Capitol building in Baton Rouge on the way to our hotel. It’s
quite a popular tourist destination. Governor Huey Long had it
built in the 1930’s to be the nation’s tallest at 34 floors (and
only art deco) capitol building. We walked around inside, very
cool congressional chambers, then took the elevator to the
observation deck up top, where you can see the Mississippi, LSU,
the Capitol Gardens, and lots and lots of chemical factories. We
spent a relatively unexciting night across the river in Port
Allen at the Comfort Inn. |
